Commercial Buildings

We work with private and commercial property owners and developers, local authorities and contractors, helping develop new projects and upgrade existing buildings. Our experience covers:

Commercial and industrial buildings

Retail projects

Leisure facilities

Religious buildings

We offer everything from initial reports and feasibility studies, through to tender documents and full construction drawings. We also provide ongoing site supervision where requested. See the Engineering Services page for more details.

Commercial and Industrial

  • Our structural design work covered ground improvement, building structure and associated drainage and allowed this new multi-span industrial unit to provide flexible accommodation.

  • This industrial unit extension was required to house two new chiller machines for a major international manufacturing company. The steel-framed building we created featured a composite steel/concrete roof which provided effective sound and vibration insulation. This minimised disturbance to the rest of the site, and to nearby residents.

  • This steel portal framed warehouse included various spans and floor areas, plus a two-storey office and stores unit. It was built over the infilled basements of a demolished mill with the ground conditions strengthened by a dynamic impaction system.

  • We overcame the challenges of difficult access and a nearby river to convert this a five-storey Grade 2 listed mill into 42 apartments.

  • Our successful solution for this four-storey commercial infill development on a main shopping street used extensive underpinning, plus temporary works for adjoining properties. We created a steel frame for the first two storeys with load bearing masonry above.

  • A current project to convert a 19th century cotton mill into residential units and add new-build housing.

Public Buildings

    • We have completed numerous projects at this golf club, including work on the Greenkeeper's Store, a two-storey function room, the Pro Shop and the changing rooms

  • We worked with local contractors MPS on this RIBA Award-winning design for Mellor Primary School. It included natural materials such as timber frames and straw bale insulation plus a habitat wall.

  • We were a member of the award-winning 2016 LABC team which worked on this all-age ministry camp and training centre with onsite accommodation and activity facilities.

  • We provided structural calculations for the sub-structure and supporting steelwork frame at London’s Stratford DLR Station.

  • This video shows the construction of an extension to Mellor Primary School, over a six-month period.

  • As the designated safety engineer for the Halton Select Security Stadium, we worked on the structural design of a floodlight installation and modifications to seating and a TV stand.

Art, Heritage and Religious

  • Working with English Heritage and various Conservation Officers, we created designs for the repair of this 15th century octagonal Civil War tower. These included temporary works where stonework damaged by cannon balls had to be removed.

  • For this church hall and link corridor in New Mills we detailed a steel portal frame on mass concrete footings. The frame was clad in stone and a traditional pitched timber roof was added.of.

  • We wrote a specification of works for the windows of this Manchester church which had been affected by dry rot. We also checked the existing structure’s ability to support new stainless steel roof finishes.

  • We completed a feasibility study and initial balcony design scheme for the auditorium at this theatre organ museum and heritage centre.

  • This Romiley church was extended to include a new single storey, portal framed hall.

  • We designed and project-managed the new extension and structural alterations for an enlarged foyer at Poynton Players Theatre.
